Privacy notice
One address, one message, then it is gone.
This notice covers locl.link before launch, while the site is a single screen with a single form. It will be replaced when the app itself opens on November 30, and we will say so here rather than quietly widen it.
What we collect
If you tap Notify and send an address, two things are written down:
- The email address you typed. Exactly as you entered it.
- The moment it arrived. A timestamp, so we can tell the list apart in order.
That is the whole record. We do not ask for your name, your city, your phone number or your age, and there is nowhere on this page to give them. We do not create an account for you.
What we do not do
- No analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising tags, no session recording.
- No cookies are set on your visit. The site sets one cookie only for the people who sign in to read the list, and only on the page where they do that.
- No profile is built about you, and nothing is inferred from your address.
- Your address is never sold, rented, shared for anyone else's advertising, or passed to a data broker.
Your IP address
When the form is submitted, your IP address is used for a few minutes to count how many times that address has posted, so the form cannot be flooded. It is held in the server's memory, it is never written to the list or to any file, and it disappears when the window closes or the server restarts. It is never connected to the address you sent.
Typefaces load from Google
The page pulls its fonts from Google Fonts. That request comes from your browser, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when the page loads, under its own notice at policies.google.com/privacy. It happens whether or not you use the form, and we receive nothing back from it.
Why we hold it
To send you one message, once, on the day locl. goes live. Nothing else. We rely on your consent, which you gave by sending the address, and you can take it back at any time by writing to us. In the EU and UK this is consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.
How long we keep it
Until the launch message goes out, and then no more than thirty days after it, so we can handle anything that bounces. After that the row is deleted. If you ask us to remove it sooner, we do that instead and we do not keep a copy to remember that you asked.
Where it is kept
In a single file on the server that runs this site. The list is not synced to a mailing platform, a CRM, or a third-party service. The people who can read it are the people who run locl., and they reach it through a page that needs a passphrase.
Your choices
Write to privacy@locl.link and ask for any of the following. You do not need to explain why, and we will answer within thirty days.
- A copy of what we hold about you, which will be the address and the timestamp.
- A correction, if you mistyped the address.
- Deletion, which also takes you off the launch message.
- Withdrawal of consent, which has the same effect as deletion.
Depending on where you live, these may also be rights you hold under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or a US state privacy law such as the Florida Digital Bill of Rights or the CCPA. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, so there is no opt-out for that to give you. We do not use your address to make any automated decision about you, and we will never charge you a different price or refuse you service for exercising any of this.
Children
This page is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly keep an address from anyone under 13. If you believe a child's address is on the list, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, the date below changes with it and the new version appears here before it takes effect. The address you already sent stays under the terms you sent it under.
Who to write to
locl. is operated by Pulse Media, Inc. For anything on this page, or anything else about your data, write to privacy@locl.link and a person will read it.
